Tempranillo is a lively red variety from Spain’s premier wine region – the Rioja. Often released very young as a Joven style – light and fresh – there are also three other levels of Tempranillo available. First is the Crianza which requires the tempranillo to spend at least one year in an oak barrel before release. Next is Reserva – two years in oak. Then comes Gran Reserva – four years in an oak barrel. Savina Lane’s current Tempranillo release is a Crianza and spent almost 18 months quietly aging in French Oak. Our 2014 Tempranillo is currently in oak and we will produce both a Crianza and a Reserva from the 2014 vintage which was of exceptional quality.
